What is the eligibility for Canada PR in 2023?

Before we go through the eligibility for Canada PR in 2023, let us briefly under the Canadian permanent residency system.

What is Canada PR?

Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) is a 5-year multiple-entry visa that allows immigrants to study, work, and settle in Canada as permanent residents. Going through the process to apply for Canada PR brings in numerous benefits including free healthcare, world-class education, high-paying job opportunities, and a roadmap to citizenship.

How does it work?

Although there are over 104+ options to immigrate to Canada – your best bet is to apply for Canada PR through the Express Entry system.

To be eligible, you would need to achieve at least 67 out of 100 in the Express Entry point grid. If you manage to achieve a qualifying score, you will be placed in the Express Entry pool – alongside other eligible candidates.

Once in the pool, you will be ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Points are awarded based on certain human capital, skills transferability, and additional factors in the CRS points calculator If you’ve surpassed the minimum cut-off CRS score, the IRCC will issue you an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency in its weekly invitation round.

Factors such as Age, Education, Work Experience, Language Proficiency, Spousal Sponsorship, etc., play a pivotal role, in both the Express Entry point grid and CRS points calculator. The higher your score, the more your chances of getting invited to apply for Canada PR.

  • AGE

Candidates between the age of 18 and 35 are awarded the highest points.

  • EDUCATION

Candidates must have completed at least a post-secondary education that is assessed against Canadian standards with an Education Credential Assessment (ECA).

  • WORK EXPERIENCE

Candidates must have at least 1 year of continuous, full-time work experience in the NOC TEER Category 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (Skills Type 0, A, and B) - within the last 10 years.

  • LANGUAGE

Candidates are required to meet the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level in either English or French. This is mandatory to meet the eligibility for Canada PR– and all applicants are required to prove their language proficiency through IELTS (for English) or TEF (for French) exams.

  • SETTLEMENT FUNDS

Candidates are also asked to showcase proof of sufficient funds to support themselves and their families (if applicable) throughout their stay in Canada. Take note that you must maintain the settlement fund amount throughout the process to apply for Canada PR.

  • HEALTH

Candidates must also go to their local doctor and get a medical clearance certificate. This is required by the IRCC as proof that they are in good health and condition to travel to Canada.

  • POLICE

Candidates are also required to submit a police background check report stating that they hold no criminal record. This report should be from a police station where they have stayed for at least 6 months.

Meeting the above-mentioned Canada PR eligibility will make the Canada PR process hassle-free. You can expect to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR as quickly as 6 months!
